Two Students Internship Bases of the School Unveiled in Beijing

To actively respond to the new requirements for publishing professionals in the new era, deeply advance the industry-university-research collaborative innovation model, and cultivate publishing talents with innovative spirit, outstanding capabilities, and comprehensive literacy, from April 1st to 2nd, Jun Tao, CPC Secretary of the School, Jie Xu, Director of the Publishing Science Department, Xiaoqun Yuan, Deputy Director of the Publishing Science Department, and Jinlong Shang, Counselor for students, led a team of teaching staff and students to Beijing, visiting Higher Education Press (HEP) and Tongfang CNKI Digital Technology Co., Ltd. (Tongfang).

The event included the unveiling ceremony of internship bases, the appointment ceremony of off-campus tutors, and in-depth exchanges on cutting-edge topics such as integrated publishing talent cultivation, digital intelligence empowering publishing knowledge services, and innovative textbook development, injecting new impetus into the integration of publishing professional education and industry practice.

Unveiling of Internship Bases: A New Chapter in University-Enterprise Cooperation

At HEP and Tongfang, two pillar enterprises in China's publishing industry, relevant leaders and industry tutors witnessed this historic moment with our school's teachers and students. The Wuhan University - Higher Education Press Internship Base and Wuhan University - Tongfang CNKI Digital Technology Co., Ltd. Internship Base were officially unveiled, marking a further deepening of cooperation between Wuhan University and top domestic publishing enterprises. The newly established internship bases will build a broader and more practical learning and growth platform for students major in publishing, helping them seamlessly connect with industry needs and rapidly improve their professional skills.

Jun Tao, Jie Xu, and Xiaoqun Yuan respectively presented appointment letters to six industry experts with years of experience in the publishing field, including Yu Wang, Director of the Editorial Office of HEP; Jia Liu, Director of Chinese Editorials; Chunling Xue, Director of the Comprehensive Management Department of the Digital Production and Review Center of China Electronic Audio-Video Publishing House; Lei Xie, General Manager of the Digital Publishing Center of Tongfang; Ting Gong, Deputy General Manager of the Digital Publishing Center of Tongfang; and Zhaohui He, Project Manager of the Digital Publishing Center of Tongfang.

Discussions: Exploring New Paths for Publishing Industry Development

Teaching staff and students of the school held discussions with leaders and industry tutors from the two organizations on key issues such as industry-university collaborative education projects, challenges in knowledge services, and innovative textbook construction.

At HEP, Fangzheng Tan warmly welcomed the visiting teachers and students and affectionately reviewed the 20-year cooperation history between HEP and the publishing major of Wuhan University. He noted that the two sides had achieved fruitful results in industry-university-research cooperation in the past and should continue to explore innovative publishing education paths in the future. Fangzheng Tan emphasized that textbooks carry the national education strategy, and during the digital transformation, the core of content value must be stood firm. He expressed the hope that both sides would further deepen cooperation in industry-education integration and collaborative education, publishing think tank construction, and innovative textbook research and development, jointly explore a new development model of industry-university-research-application integration, and strive to make breakthroughs in innovative talent cultivation, digital intelligence empowering textbook construction, and industry standard formulation.

Jun Tao proposed an innovative cultivation concept that "publishing talents need both cultural sentiment and technical capabilities." He pointed out that the cooperation between the two sides would provide strong support for the digital transformation of the publishing industry, offer valuable opportunities for Wuhan University's students to deeply understand industry trends, consolidate professional foundations, and improve practical capabilities, and help students better adapt to the diverse needs of the future publishing industry.

At Tongfang, Sijie Geng sincerely welcomed the visit of the school's teachers and students and appreciated the school's efforts in cultivating talents for the scientific and technological literature and information industry over the years. He noted that Wuhan University, as a renowned domestic university, has deep expertise in information technology and digital publishing. The two sides would adhere to the principle of "resource sharing, collaborative education, mutual empowerment, and win-win development" to establish long-term and close cooperation in talent cultivation and academic research. The unveiling ceremony and industry tutor appointment would integrate university-enterprise resources to build a trinity innovative cultivation system of "industry-university integration - capability improvement - career development," injecting new vitality into the national science and technology innovation and knowledge service strategy.

Jie Xu stated that facing the future, the school would continue to strengthen cooperation with Tongfang. The newly unveiled internship base would adopt a university-enterprise co-management model and fully implement a "double tutorial system," with enterprise experts and university professors jointly guiding students to ensure the close integration of theoretical teaching and industry practice and provide all-round support and assistance to students.

Enterprise Visits: Deepening Industry-University-Research-Application Integration

This event created opportunities for publishing students to go deep into industry frontlines and improve practical capabilities, while also building a closer and more effective cooperation bridge between universities and enterprises, strongly promoting the deep integration of industry-university-research-application.

In the HEP History Museum, teachers and students understood HEP's development from its establishment with the mission of national textbook construction, introducing excellent foreign textbooks, developing independent innovative textbooks, to successfully achieving digital transformation via watching precious historical photos, documents, and concentrated displays of award-winning textbooks. This visit made teachers and students deeply feel the important position and mission of the publishing industry in national education development.

At Tongfang, experts explained the latest advancements in digital publishing technology to teachers and students, especially its independently developed AI typesetting and intelligent proofreading system, vividly demonstrating the potential of technological innovation in the publishing industry. Through interactive exchanges with industry experts, teachers and students deeply understood the cutting-edge technologies and challenges in the fields of digital publishing and knowledge services, truly appreciated the operation mode of the publishing knowledge service industry chain, and broadened their professional horizons.
